We could not find your business: what now?

What each outcome of our Google business lookup means, from several matches to no match at all, and what to do next. None of them are dead ends.

When you give us your business name in chat, we look it up on Google to build your Social Boost Services posts. Sometimes that lookup does not land cleanly. Here is what each outcome means and what to do next. None of them are dead ends.

More than one business matched

If your business name is a common one, or there are several locations, we show you the closest matches, up to five, and you pick yours.

If none of them is your business, tell us in chat. Adding your city, or your street, usually narrows it down.

We could not find your business at all

This is the most common outcome for a newer business, and it is not a problem. It just means we build your posts from what you tell us instead of from a listing.

We will ask you up to three short questions in chat:

  • What you sell.

  • Who your ideal customer is.

  • What makes you different.

The more detail you give us in those answers, the more specific your posts can be.

When we build your posts from what you tell us, we also need at least 5 photos from you, because there is no Google listing to take pictures from. Photos of your work, your products, your premises, or your team all work. Each one has to meet the Social Boost image requirements.

You gave us a Facebook or Instagram page

If you gave us a link to a Facebook or Instagram page, we cannot build your Social Boost Services posts from it. A social media page is not a website, so we cannot use it as the starting point for your posts.

Type your business name and city in chat instead. We will look your business up on Google and carry on from there. If we find your Google listing, we build your posts from it. If we do not, we ask you a few questions and build your posts from your answers and your photos.

Your website would not load

If you gave us a website address and we could not reach it, the site may be down, still being built, or blocking automated visits. We do not keep retrying.

Give us your business name and city instead. We will look you up on Google and carry on from there, exactly as we would for a business with no website. You can add your site later.

We need a bit more to work with

We need at least one thing to describe your business with. If Google has no category for your business, and you skip all three questions, there is nothing to build a post from.

Answering one question fixes it. Tell us what you sell, in a sentence, and we can get started.

We need more photos from you

When we cannot find a Google listing for your business, your Social Boost Services posts are built from your answers and your own photos, so we need at least 5 photos from you before we can build them. With fewer than 5, we cannot build your posts yet.

Share more photos in chat until you have given us at least 5. Photos of your work, your products, your premises, or your team all work. Each one has to meet the Social Boost image requirements.

Still stuck

If you are still stuck, email [email protected] with your business name and what happened, and the team will take a look. For how the whole process fits together, see Getting started with Social Boost without a website and How Social Boost uses your Google Business Profile.
