If you signed up for Social Boost Services without a website, your posts are most likely built from your Google Business Profile. This article covers what we read from your listing, what we ask you to add to it, and what that means for the posts you get.
What we read from your Google Business Profile
When you give us your business name and city in chat, we look you up on Google and read the public information on your listing:
Your business name.
Your address and location.
Your Google business category, for example bakery or plumber.
The photos on your listing, up to 10 of them.
We only read what is already public on your Google Business Profile. You do not connect your Google account, and we do not change anything on your listing.
What we ask you to add
Your Google Business Profile tells us what your business is. Your answers tell us how to talk about it. In chat we ask up to three short questions: what you sell, who your ideal customer is, and what makes you different.
The more detail you give us, the more specific your posts can be. A sentence each is enough to get started, and thin answers still produce posts, they are just more general ones.
We do need something to work from. If Google has no category for your business and you skip every question, there is not enough to build posts from. Answering one question is enough to get going.
Where your post images come from
When your posts are built from your Google Business Profile, the post images are the photos on that listing, or an image generated for the post. There is nothing for you to upload.
Each Social Boost post publishes with one image, and within a series each image is used once. If you would rather use a different picture, you can swap the image on a post before it publishes. See How many images can a Social Boost post have?
Why your posts do not mention offers or reviews
Posts built from a Google Business Profile do not feature promotions or customer testimonials. That is deliberate: your listing tells us what your business is and where it is, and it is not a reliable source for a current offer or for a quote from a customer, so we leave both out rather than guess.
If you want a post to mention a sale, a discount, or an event, you can add that detail yourself. Every post can be edited before it publishes, so you can work the specifics into the wording of a post we have already generated for you.
Keeping your posts accurate
Your posts are built from your Google Business Profile as it was when you started with us. If your category is wrong, your address is old, or your photos are from three years ago, that is what your posts are built from, so it is worth checking your listing in Google before you start.
If something in a post is out of date, you can edit the wording or swap the image before it publishes.
If you have made bigger changes to your listing since you started, such as a new category, new services, or new photos, you can start again with your business name and city. We look your listing up fresh and build a new series from it as it is now.
If you do not have a Google Business Profile
Not having a Google Business Profile is not a problem, and you do not need to create one. If we cannot find a listing for your business, we ask you a few questions in chat, ask you to share at least 5 photos, and build your posts from that instead.
