When you add an image to a Social Boost post, it needs to meet the requirements below. Images outside these limits are rejected at upload.

Dimensions are checked one side at a time, not as a combined total. A 6000 x 800 px banner fails on both counts: it is too wide and too short.
Some post options accept smaller images
A few options in Social Boost accept images below the 400 x 400 px minimum. A Store single image post, for example, can use an image as small as 200 x 200 px. If an upload screen states its own minimum, that number applies. Where no minimum is shown, use 400 x 400 px.
Posts generated from your product catalog
If your posts are generated from your online store's catalog, the images come from the product images already on your products, so there is nothing to upload. If you replace an image on a post before it publishes, the replacement needs to meet the requirements above.
If your image will not upload
The file is too large. Your image is over 5 MB. Re-save it as a JPEG, or reduce the quality or resolution, and try again.
The image is too small. One side is below the minimum. Scaling a small image up in an editor will look blurry, so use the original higher-resolution file if you have it.
The image is too big. One side is over 5000 px. Resize it so both the width and the height are 5000 px or less.
Nothing happens when you select the file. Check the file extension. Only JPEG, PNG, and GIF files are supported.
Tips for the best result
Square images, for example 1080 x 1080 px, sit well in both the Facebook and Instagram feeds.
Start from the largest version of the image you have and let it be scaled down. Enlarging a small image loses quality.
Use JPEG for photographs, and PNG for logos or graphics with flat color or a transparent background.
Promoting a post uses the image already on the published post, so an image that met these requirements when you created the post does not need to be uploaded again.
