How do I complete Google’s “Website Verification” process?

Google requires you to verify that you own your website before your Google Shopping or Google Product Listings can run. The easiest way to do this is by adding a verification meta tag to your website’s HTML.

Once you’ve purchased a Google Shopping campaign, we’ll provide you with a verification code to add to your website.

Note: If you have already verified your site in a different Google Merchant Center account, we’ll request a transfer to your new Merchant Account instead of creating a new verification.

Example verification code

Here is an example of the type of meta tag you’ll receive:

<meta name="google-site-verification" content="LtKvYm5BZo5g8ahd89clli1bnHp3h6ax5zxA2TzCaQtA" />

Your tag will look similar but will have a different content value. Always use the exact tag we provide.

Step 1: Access your homepage HTML

  • Log in to your website builder, CMS, or FTP client.

  • Open your homepage file or template.

  • Locate the <head> section of your page’s HTML.

Step 2: Obtain the meta tag

You can get your unique verification meta tag in either of these ways:

  • From the Kliken app

    • Log in to the Kliken app.

    • Go to “Google Product Listings” or “Google Shopping Ads”.

    • Open your Checklist.

    • If the website verification step is not yet completed, that checklist item will display your verification meta tag.

    • Copy the entire tag.

    b) From the Support Team

    • Open a Support chat within the Kliken app.

    • Request your Google website verification meta tag.

    • Copy the full tag provided by Support.

Step 3: Insert the meta tag into your homepage

  • In your homepage HTML, find the <head> section.

  • Paste the entire meta tag so that it appears inside the <head> section and before the </head> closing tag.

  • Save your changes in your editor or FTP client.

Step 4: Save, publish, and let Google verify

  • Republish or update your website so the new meta tag is live.

  • Once the verification code is present on your homepage, Google will automatically attempt to verify your site.

  • Return to the Kliken app and check your Checklist to confirm that the website verification step shows as completed. This can take a short time to update.
