Verifying and claiming your website in your Google Merchant Center account (GMC) is a crucial step that allows Google to recognize you as the official owner of your site. This process is important because it ensures the authenticity of your website, protects your brand, and enables you to display your products and run ads on Google effectively.

With Kliken’s help, this process is largely automated, making it easy to verify and claim your site without extra work. Here’s how Kliken supports you in setting up verification and claiming on GMC.

Note: Kliken has unique integrations with different eCommerce and website providers, so instructions may vary slightly depending on your platform. If you notice any differences, follow the steps provided in your Kliken dashboard or reach out to Kliken Support.

Step 1: Connect Your Google Merchant Center Account

  • If You Already Have a Google Merchant Center Account:

    • You can import your existing GMC account into Kliken immediately after launching your campaign. Kliken will then check the verification and claiming status of your website and help complete the process if it hasn’t been verified and claimed already.

  • If You Don’t Have a Google Merchant Center Account:

    • Kliken will create a GMC account for you if you don’t import one shortly after signing up.

    • Once the account is created, Kliken will send an email invitation granting you access to the new GMC account. To access this account, add yourself using a Google account-associated email address by following the steps in Edit Campaign > Advanced Settings if you don’t receive the invite.

Step 2: Verify Your Website URL in Kliken

Kliken automatically pulls your website’s URL from your eCommerce platform and uses it to add the necessary meta tag for Google verification.

  • Important: If you’ve recently updated your website’s domain (e.g., moving to a new URL), make sure your store’s URL is up to date in your eCommerce platform. Kliken relies on this information to verify your site correctly.

Step 3: Allow Kliken to Automate Verification and Claiming

Kliken embeds the required HTML meta tag directly on your website, allowing verification to complete automatically in most cases. If verification does not complete automatically, you may need to take the following steps:

  1. Manually Add the Meta Tag (only if required):

    • In your Kliken account, go to the Campaign Checklist in your dashboard to find the meta tag needed for verification. Alternatively, you can locate the meta tag in your Google Merchant Center account if you’ve added yourself to it.

    • The meta tag will look something like this:

      <meta name="google-site-verification" content="YOUR_UNIQUE_CODE_HERE" />
    • Add this tag to the <head> section of your website’s homepage. If you need assistance, you can contact Kliken Support or reach out to your webmaster for help with this step.

  2. Confirm Verification: After adding the tag (if needed), Kliken will complete the verification and claiming steps on GMC.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Update Your URL if Necessary: If you change your store’s domain, update it in your eCommerce platform to ensure Kliken has the latest URL for verification.

  • Missed Invitation?: If you didn’t receive an invite for a GMC account Kliken created, go to Edit Campaign > Advanced Settings and add yourself using a Google account-associated email address.

Kliken’s automated support simplifies the process of verifying and claiming your website for Google Merchant Center, so you can focus on your campaigns. For further assistance, reach out to Kliken Support!
